We are not celebrating the Safety Week at Transportmitra. What an irony it is to term it as celebration. Are we really not serious about implementing the safety? A society, plagued by the monstrous road unsafety norms, needs to be awakened. Road safety week must come as a reminder as to what we need to do the whole of fifty two weeks of the year. This year road safety week is earmarked for 11th to 16th of January, 2016.

We at Transportmitra are very clear about our mission. Let us start sensitizing the road safety issue in our country in whatever little way we can. Propelled by the philosophy, the young teams at Driver Development center, Bangalore and Driver Development Lab, Sonepat, fanned out to the highways, transport terminals, petrol bunks, and transporter hubs to propagate the safety message. Every day of the week was utilized by the teams to make the drivers understand the importance of safety not only for the people on the roads but also for the sake of themselves and their families. Oaths were administered in their own mother tongues. Oaths were first explained so as to have an impact of it on them.

Road and highway signs were widely displayed. Meaning of the signage were deciphered to these drivers and the public in general. It was emphasized that the road safety week was not a ritual to be conducted every year but a reminder to drive safely so that the ghory road deaths could be avoided.

Leaflets with safety messages in Kannada and Hindi were distributed to the highway drivers. Each driver ka saathi explaining it to the drivers who could not read it.

Safety quizs pertaining to the highways were conducted at the adopted dhaba and parking lot of the truck terminal. Enthusiasm of the drivers was certainly a positive sign that the safety message was sinking well in the driver community.

We can proudly say the week had a beneficial impact. However, we are determined to do something more ambitious and more significant all the 52 weeks to deal with a problem so severe in our country.

Hats off Team Transportmitra
